2023-2026
Your Southport
Background
In 2023, Southport BID approached me to create Your Southport, a brand-new digital platform designed to promote Southport as a destination, support town-centre businesses and positively influence how the town is perceived online.
The platform was built entirely from scratch, with the intention of becoming a long-term place-marketing asset rather than a short-term promotional channel.
From the outset, the project was rooted in destination marketing and place-branding principles, focusing on consistency, storytelling and high-quality visual content. The objective was to create a recognisable and trusted voice for the town that could authentically showcase Southport’s businesses, events, lifestyle and ongoing investment.
Strategy & Approach
Your Southport was developed to move away from traditional promotional posting and instead focus on presenting the lived experience of Southport. Content was designed to feel aspirational but authentic, using video and photography to elevate perception while remaining community-led. The platform focused on organic growth, shareable content and long-term value, positioning Southport as a place to visit, spend time and invest in.
Rather than selling individual offers, the strategy centred on building a strong place brand that businesses could benefit from collectively. This approach helped foster local pride while also reaching new audiences beyond the town.
Evolution & Wider Use
What began as a project for Southport BID has evolved into a scalable destination marketing model. Your Southport now works closely with other destinations and place-based organisations, applying the same principles of place branding, community-led storytelling and long-term digital visibility.
The platform has demonstrated how consistent, high-quality content can shape perception, build pride and support economic growth at a destination level.
Conclusion
Your Southport is a clear example of modern destination marketing done effectively. Built from the ground up in 2023, it has become a trusted voice for the town, delivered measurable value for businesses and established a proven model for place branding that now extends beyond Southport.
Growth & Performance
Over a 12-month period from December 2024 to December 2025, Your Southport achieved significant organic growth across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. The platform reached over 30 million people in total, with an average monthly organic reach of approximately 2.5 million. The audience has grown to more than 50,000 followers, with over 14,000 new followers gained in a single year, demonstrating sustained momentum without reliance on paid advertising.
During this time, 406 pieces of content were published, creating a substantial and reusable bank of digital assets. The content delivered an estimated £312,000 in total added value, combining both content marketing value and content production value, highlighting the long-term return of strategic destination-led content.
